Playa del Carmen was originally a small fishing village south of Cancun, but in the last years it has transformed into a bustling tourist resort. The site of Chichén Itzá is 3 hours away, but it's definitely worth the trip! Although touristy Playa del Carmen is captivating and picturesque, full of small and charming Mexican shops and restaurants. This little city has so much to offer if you want it.
